Listing rules and safety tips.
How the directory works, what every tutor agrees to when they list their lessons, and what we suggest parents do before the first lesson.
What the directory is
The tutor directory is an advertising service. It helps people in Trinidad and Tobago who give lessons part-time reach students who need help with a subject. Silver Tongue Contracting runs the directory.
- Tutors are independent. They don’t work for us, and we don’t assign tutors to students.
- Tutors set their own rates, and parents pay tutors directly. We don’t handle lesson payments.
- We don’t arrange, supervise or record lessons. Lessons take place online between the tutor and the family.
- We don’t check tutors’ qualifications. Anything a tutor says about their own studies or experience is in their words.
What we check before a listing goes live
- The tutor shows us a police Certificate of Character issued in the last 12 months. Only our staff see it.
- The tutor confirms they are 18 or older and live in Trinidad and Tobago.
- The listing follows the rules below.
We may take a listing down at any time if it breaks these rules or we receive a complaint we can’t resolve.
Rules for tutors
- Describe your lessons honestly, including your subjects, levels, rates and experience.
- Keep your contact details out of your listing. Parents contact you through the form on your profile, and you reply by email.
- Give lessons online only, by video call. Don’t ask to meet students in person through the directory.
- Keep lessons professional. When the student is under 18, agree the arrangements with their parent or guardian.
- Keep your Certificate of Character current, and upload a new one when we ask.
- Hide your listing when you’re fully booked, and keep your rates and times up to date.
- Don’t describe yourself as part of a school, the Ministry of Education or any government service, and don’t suggest we employ you.
Founding tutors
The tutors who help us start the directory are our founding tutors. Anyone who sends us their listing by the end of 31 December 2026 (Trinidad and Tobago time), and whose listing we approve, becomes one.
- Founding tutors have a Founding tutor badge on their profile and in the directory.
- We promote founding tutors in the advertising we run to bring parents to the directory.
- Hiding your listing doesn’t affect your founding status. Deleting your listing ends it, and so does our removing your listing for breaking these rules.
- Founding status belongs to the listing you sent us by 31 December 2026, and to the account that sent it. It can’t be passed to someone else.
Safety tips for parents
- Start with a short first lesson so you and your child can see whether the tutor is a good fit.
- Stay nearby during lessons with younger children, and keep the camera in a shared room.
- Use the video tool you agreed on, and don’t share your home address.
- Ask the tutor about their experience and how they’ll help with the subject.
- Pay for a lesson or a few lessons at a time, rather than a large amount up front.
- If anything feels wrong, stop the lessons and tell us.
Reporting a listing
If a listing breaks these rules or something went wrong in a lesson, email support@silvertonguecontracting.com with the tutor’s name from their profile. If a child may be at risk, contact the police first.
